The creation of this piece mirrored my spiritual coaching approach—centered on removing layers of trauma and limiting patterns to reveal the true self within. I began with numerous layers of paint, applied spontaneously and without a specific image in mind. The process involved deliberate scraping away, gradually uncovering hidden colors, textures, and symbols beneath the surface. It is a visual reflection of the spiritual awakening we experience—removing the years of layers we intentionally put on ourselves during the first half of life. The second half is about shedding those layers to reveal the divine within. Just as in spiritual healing, this artwork became a metaphor for releasing what no longer serves to reveal the divine truth that always resides inside us.
This painting was a spontaneous journey into the subconscious, where randomness and intuition guided each brushstroke. Starting with no preconceived idea, I deliberately chose random colors and tools, allowing layers of paint to build up and obscure earlier images. Over time, hidden forms began to emerge beneath the surface—abstract representations of faces or figures, each one more intriguing than the last.
The process involved repeatedly applying and scraping away layers of paint, creating a dynamic interplay of colors that bled through and revealed themselves unexpectedly.
The final act was to cover the entire canvas with black, which I saw as a symbol of darkness—not as something bad, but as a covering or unveiling. Darkness doesn’t obscure forever; it merely conceals what we aren’t ready to see "yet." Within that darkness, the divine begins to reveal itself in due time. Just as Christ is hidden within each of us, the divine remains concealed beneath the surface—represented by hints of blue underneath the black.
The blue symbolizes the hidden divine presence, a spirit living within us that only emerges when the moment is right. As this painting revealed the sudden emergence of the eyes looking back at me—eyes that I had not deliberately painted—I saw a divine message: Christ is within us all, waiting for the right moment to be revealed. Just as the blue begins to peek through the darkness, the divine surface gradually and unexpectedly appears in our lives, offering glimpses of spiritual awakening and inner truth.
The thorns in this artwork symbolize the curse of toiling—reminding us of Genesis, where we are told that 'by the sweat of your brow' we shall toil. Christ’s decision to wear a crown of thorns on His brow on the way to the cross is profoundly significant; it signifies that we are delivered and redeemed from this curse of endless labor and suffering. Just as Christ bore the thorns to demonstrate our liberation, this painting embodies that same message of release for me—helping me transcend the burdens of toil and move toward redemption and spiritual awakening.
Everything about this painting is symbolic. Just as it represents redemption from the curse of toiling, I believe it revealed itself to me at precisely the moment I needed it most. It appeared as a doorway to financial freedom—an opportunity to break free from the burden of debt.
$10,000 To the one soul who understands and recognizes the true value and deeper meaning of this piece, and also finds their own liberation through it.
